Assassin's Rose

An Immortal Games Novella
A New Adult Paranormal Fantasy by KaSonndra Leigh
Release Date: September 29, 2013

My mother once told me life is a lot like a card game.

She said you can either accept the hand you have been dealt, or you can create a new play, make your own rules, and win the game one card at a time.

I loved my mother with all my heart. She’s gone now. He took both my parents away from me. I’m talking about the Angel of Chaos, the one who plans to destroy both the human world and mine.

I can’t let that happen. He and the ones who serve him have already taken so much from me. I do believe it’s time for a little payback. I will have the final say. With my lover by my side, I can conquer anything.

I will turn the game around...and win.

For I am the assassin; and revenge will be my rose.

**This story contains sexual situations and mature language. It is intended for an audience at 17+ years of age.**

About the Author:

Author of the Bestselling Lost Immortals Saga and the International Bestseller the Prelude. I’m also a mother, blogger, reader, gardener, home renovator, and a slayer of undead Egyptian mummies in Tomb Raider. I believe in karma, coffee, and seriously wish that the producers of Xena would bring my favorite show ever back.

I was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC. Most of my characters are based on people that I’ve met throughout my travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with me as if I’ve known them my entire life. Does this freak me out? Not really. My mom says that one day I’ll get kidnapped by one of them. I told her that if it weren’t for these lovely people then I wouldn’t be able to create the stories that I do.
Some other common tidbits…hmm. I’ve watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. Seriously, the way I see it is if I keep watching it enough, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in my backyard. I know. I have a huge imagination!

Logan's Acadian Wolves

Author: Kym Grosso
Published: 15 September 2013
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Pinky's rating (out of 5): 5 dragonflies

Book Description
Deep in the heart of New Orleans, Acadian Wolves’ Alpha, Logan Reynaud, rescues a beautiful woman in the dead of night. Dr. Wynter Ryan, a leading virologist, is fascinated with her charismatic protector. As the chemistry ignites between her and the dominant Alpha, she relinquishes her ties to the past, embracing ecstasy and submission within his arms and intrepidly acquiescing to her own adventurous instincts. Succumbing to desire, she learns to trust her Alpha, discovering what it means to be wolf.

Passion and mystery on the bayou stirs Logan’s wolf, demanding he claim his mate. Yet Wynter’s a distraction he can’t afford when his priority is to lead his new pack. Will Logan surrender to the uncontrollable need to claim Wynter as his mate? And will he be able to keep her alive, finding the killer who threatens the Acadian Wolves?

Warning: This book contains several erotic love scenes, including m/f/m ménage, and is intended for adult readers only.

My Thoughts
This is book four in the Immortals of New Orleans Series, and I must say, if you've read the first three and thought their leading men were hot, you will be ON FIRE when you meet Logan !
While there is an ongoing story connecting all of the books in this series, if you a picking up Logan's Acadian Wolves and haven't read the previous three, you will not be lost. Kym has done a wonderful job introducing her characters, as well as giving the reader just enough of the back story so they aren't left wondering what's going on.
As with the other three books, you will be instantly drawn into the chemistry between Dr. Wynter Ryan and Logan Reynaud right from the start. These two characters while starting out with a love/hate relationship soon end up getting hot and steamy. I certainly think Kym has outdone her self with the sex scenes in this one !
Kym has done a marvellous job keeping the mystery of who is threatening the Acadian Wolves going right to the end, and this reader certainly didn't pick the killer !
I highly recommend this and all of the Immortals of New Orleans Series !

“I couldn't put it down. So I finished it last night and all I can say is WOW! This book was amazing and different.” Brianna (Book Blogger)

I loved how the author took a different approach to writing a love story in modern times with the paranormal element present. I thought it was absolutely wonderful and refreshing. Marvelous!” Kathy H (Amazon Reviewer)

I will admit I scoffed at the way it started but in the end I had fallen in love with this story…completely untraditional it was a very original idea, not to mention modern. This story had such a good plot and the story structure was sound. Kacii – The Kooky Bookworm (Book Blogger)

About the Author:

Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and loves anything paranormal. Mia always had a love of writing but never reading. She was more interested in sports and hated sitting still - despite getting three poems published before the age of sixteen. Finally though, she found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of reading which is now one of her favourite hobbies.

Mia began with poems before moving on to short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series 'The Wanderer Trilogy' and from there other ideas have emerged. With a total of nine books planned at this moment, she is busy working on her second series 'Elemental Killers' before moving onto the next idea on her ever growing list.

Happy with the amount of photos I had collected I started to head back out of the forest, still flicking through my shots. As well as close ups, I had taken a few landscapes and as I was almost at the edge of the forest I noticed something in one of the photographs that made me stop.
In the left hand corner was a figure that looked mostly human, but was blurred as if they were moving on the spot.
A cold shudder shot through me.
Looking over my shoulder I became slightly panicked and felt as if someone was following me.
My eyes flicked and searched the shadows. Even though there was no sign that anything had ever been behind me, the forest looked different now - dark and threatening.
Instinctively I broke away and ran, still clutching the camera that was displaying the freaky image. Surrounded by trees I didn’t stop until I was free of the forest and back in the open light and sight of my house.
Throwing open my door, I slumped against the inside of it, regaining my breath from the short sprint. Once I had recovered I looked down at the photo once more, just to make sure that I hadn’t been seeing things. The old saying “the camera never lies,” came into my mind and for the first time I wished it not to be true. Sure enough though, as I looked down at the screen, the figure was still there and this time I noticed a red and orange glow around where its feet should have been. The image almost looked like the person was on fire but I thought I would have surely noticed if there had been a burning man in front of me.

What About the Boy?

Author: Stephen Gallup
Published:1 September 2011
Genre: Memoir
Pinky's rating (out of 5): 5 dragonflies

Book Description
Nobody knew what hurt little Joseph. Perhaps some toxin had invaded his mother's body before his birth. Perhaps it was the difficult birth itself. Or maybe the origin of his disabilities was genetic. Whatever the cause, something had gone terribly wrong — but no one was offering solutions or reasonable guidance.
He cried most of the time, and thrashed about as if in great pain. He wasn't learning how to crawl, talk, or interact normally. His parents sought medical help and were told at first not to worry so much. Later, the professionals recommended counselling to help the parents accept reality. Nothing could help their son, and the quality of their own lives was at risk.

Refusal to accept that advice launched an improbable journey that changed their lives forever.

What About the Boy? A Father's Pledge to His Disabled Son chronicles a family's rejection of hopelessness and their pursuit of a normal life.
My Thoughts
Joseph using his Overhead Ladder
This story moved me more than I could have imagined.
When I commenced reading "What About the Boy, A Father's Pledge to His Disabled Son", I had read the blurb so knew what the story was about. However this did not prepare me for how heart wrenching, and loving this story really is.
Having been blessed with two ‘Normal’ children who have grown into beautiful Young Adults, it is hard to comprehend what some couples go through when their child isn’t ‘Normal’.
But then again, who am I to define ‘Normal’.
This story takes us on the journey with Steven and Judy Gallop, as they come to terms with the fact that their beautiful son Joseph has an under developed brain. While they fight for acceptance for him, and through alternative means, learn how to teach him the simplest of things, crawling, walking, speaking. The things that we take for granted when our ‘Normal’ children just do them.
Joseph - 2013
We share with Stephen and Judy the torment they endured from mainstream medicine when their 'specialists' wanted to pigeon hole Joseph into the 'too hard basket', with a 'put him in an institution and get on with your life' attitude.
This story is very thought provoking. What would I have done if I had been in a similar situation?
I firmly believe that things happen in your life for a reason. We may not be aware of the reason, and like the struggles faced by Joseph, it will test your resolve.

Why were Stephen and Judy given such a special child, and what toll did it take on this inspirational family?

That is the question that you are going to have to answer for yourself after you read "What About the Boy?"
I wish to thank Stephen Gallup for contacting me, asking me to read his memoir, and for sharing his photos of Joseph with me, and giving me permission to share them with you.
