Book Description
After being separated from my mother twice in my 10 short years of life, I was more than a little excited at the prospect of being reunited with her again. Unfortunately, my elation was to be short-lived when the visits to my bedroom started. Threatening to send me away again or turn the loaded gun he kept in my wardrobe on us all, he kept my silence.

It was to be another six years until I escaped the abuse of my mother’s husband and another 30 years before I was able to bring him to justice. Ironically, the one person that should have protected me and helped me fight to stop him, my mother, is still with him to this day.

Note from the author: This is a true account of the sexual and physical abuse I sustained as a child. Please be warned - this is not an easy read and contains graphic abuse themes.

My Thoughts
My heart broke as I read this book.
We as parents are supposed to keep our children safe from harm, wherever that harm may come from, even if it is within the home environment.
This is an extremely hard book to read, and I must admit at times I was fighting tears, as I felt every blow, penetration and humiliation along with the author.
This book contains many message, as well as strong emotion that will have many readers questioning how could a mother ignore what was happening under her own roof. I know I certainly did.

This book is a testament to the strength and courage of abuse survivors. It was written both as a healing measure, but also to let it be known that justice can be served and that every one of us has the internal strength to carry on.

I thank Gladys Quintal for giving me the opportunity to read her book, and while it is not a subject that many people want to think about let alone read about, I feel it is a story worth reading.
