Pinky's rating (out of 5): 5 dragonflies

Abigail is there with good reason, but she's done her time, and in order to save them both, Rhyan must strike a deal with the Devil. The stakes are higher than ever before, with his soul, his friends and even the fate of Heaven and Earth in jeopardy. If he fails, Rhyan stands to lose more than he ever feared. Will true love be denied? It will take everything he's got to break down the traps Lucifer puts in his way. New lines are drawn and old scores are settled, and Rhyan is in for the fight of his life. With Abigail as the prize, and humanity in the balance, he will stop at nothing to claim...Hell's Gift.

My Thoughts
After reading Save My Soul, and being intrigued by Rhyan's character, I was interested to see how his story developed in Hell's Gift, and I wasn't disappointed.

I must say though, when the secrets of the Sydes were revealed early on I immediately thought WHAT are your doing, this is so going to ruin a great storyline. But NO I was definitely wrong on that account. The wonderful author that is Kristie Haigwood managed to keep the suspense and intrigue going all the way to the last Syde of Hell, and then wrapped it all in a little bow to ensure that everybody got what they wanted.

Again, I laughed and cried as the relationships between the characters in this book came to life and reinforced the earlier belief that yes, everybody does have a soulmate, you just have to keep looking to find them.

Meet ... Kristie Haigwood

Timed perfectly to coincide with the release on
15 February of her new book Hells Gift the sequel to Save My Soul, I am pleased to Welcome Kristie Haigwood to Pinky's Favorite Reads

Where are you from originally?

I was born in Alabama, US, but I was raised and still live in Arkansas, US.

Tell us your latest news?

Wow! My latest news is my fourth novel, Hell's Gift, will be releasing 15 February 2013. It's the sequel to my first, Save My Soul. I'm pretty excited about this one. Well, I get excited about all of them, but this one feels different. It's my best and favorite so far.

If you could have a dinner party with any authors from any time in history, who would you choose and why?

J. R. Ward. I didn't even have to think about that one. She was my inspiration to start writing.

What are your current projects?

I have the second and third book of my Eternal Series, co-authored with Ella Medler, in the works, as well as a young adult piece about fallen angels. I plan to write the 3rd book in the Save My Soul series and publish all of these this year.

What books or authors have influenced your writing?

As mentioned above, J. R. Ward, but there are so many Indie(independent) authors that inspire me to keep moving forward in my writing career. We are actually in a totally different league of our own in writing. We have no rules, no laws, nothing holding us to, well, any thing. We are free, and the sky is the limit. We don't have to wait a year or more after finishing a novel to publish. We do what is necessary and get it out there to our fans. It's not a job to us, nor is it a hobby; writing is our passion, it's our life, and we would be nothing without it. Sorry, I think I took that way off the grid there. I hope I at least answered the question. LOL

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?

Yes, there are many, and they are all Indie authors: Ella Medler, Trish Marie Dawson, Tara Stogner Wood, Patti Roberts, Miranda Stork, Lindsay Avalon, Caroline Levy. There are hundreds more; I'm serious, and I could name them all, but I'm sure you get the idea. I love being an Indie author, because we are a family. There is something very special and unique about each and every one of us.

What book are you reading now and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)?

'RAPTURE' - Book 3 in 'The Fallen Angel Series' by J. R. Ward

Tell us a little about your background. When did you start writing?

I've been an avid reader of fiction since I learned to read. I also had a very vivid imagination as a child and loved to daydream. I talked to myself a lot. I also answered myself. No, I'm not crazy. There have been hundreds of stories in my head, just waiting to get out, since I was a child. Realizing that was the hard part. It actually never occurred to me to actually write a novel until June of 2010. That was a little over two years ago and I am writing my 8th novel now. The stories want to be told.

Where do you get your ideas?

They just come to me. I sit down at my laptop and don't even think about what I'm writing. I can't think about what I want to happen or I will get writer's block. If I try to force something to happen, it won't happen. My characters know how the story starts and ends. I'm just the person lucky enough to be the one they chose to write them. Again, no, I'm not crazy.

Do you write full-time now?

I care for my grandmother with Alzheimer's Disease and my mother with renal failure 5 days a week. Doing that allows me to write on a full-time basis.

Can you tell us a little bit about Hell's Gift?

Here's the blurb: Depression consumes the guardian angel, Rhyan, after his human charge chooses her soulmate over him. Filled with anger and despair, he lashes out. And when his hate-filled words land him neck-deep in Hell, he realizes he's gone too far. He expects trouble, but not to discover his own soulmate in the fiery depths.

How long did it take you to complete?

Eternal Island, Eternal Immortality & Eternal Inception (vampires & witches) each took me 3 months to complete. Save My Soul (guardian angels/demons) took me 21 days. Forbidden Touch (vampires) took me 28 days. And Hell's Gift (guardian angels/demons) took me 5 months. Hell's Gift was a tough one, but it is my best and favorite so far.

Are any of your characters based on real-life friends or acquaintances?

No. I could never put someone in one of my books and listen to them complain about how 'their' character isn't exactly how they think I should write them. Most people don't want to hear the truth about themselves or how someone else sees them. So, if I did put someone in my book that I knew, I would have to make them sound better than they actually are. Real people are not super heroes, no matter how much we wish it so.

Do you ever incorporate yourself into your characters?

I am in every single one of my characters. Given, I'm no super hero, either, but there is a part of my personality in all of my characters. It's how they seem so real.

Tell us about your cover. Did you design it yourself?

Patti Roberts designed my cover. I have a hand in what I want and she makes it happen.

Where did you get the inspiration for your cover?

From the story. I picked a guy that I thought looked as much like the Rhyan in my head as I could find, then I wanted a background that portrayed the idea of good VS. evil, Heaven and Hell. I found the background in DeviantArt, designed by a girl from Poland.

Does your reading inspire you and your work?

Absolutely! Reading keeps me in what I call 'Fiction Land'. I like to stay there. I would pack my bags and move there forever if there was actually such a place. Instead, I must create it in my mind. Reading opens the mind to new and different possibilities.

Birth of the Nyxian

Author: Amanda R Browning
Published: 4 June 2012
Genre: Paranormal/Romance
Pinky's rating (out of 5): 4.5 dragonflies

Book Description
Harlow Garrington is a twenty-six year old woman left alone in the world when her family perished in a tragic accident. She led a quiet life and lived in her books until a chance meeting brought Aiden into her life. He was smart, sexy, and chivalrous-- everything she wanted in a man. There was just one problem, he was also an eight hundred year old vampire.

Nearly a thousand years ago, vampires split into two factions. Those who chose to sacrifice their souls for immortality were pure evil, without a shred of humanity left. They existed to kill and terrify. Those turned by force, like Aiden, were able to retain some of their humanity and did not need to kill to survive.

My Thoughts
I liked the story line in this book, I was drawn to our Heroine Harlow, and her no nonsense attitude. There are no sparkly vampires here, these are the vampires you see in horror stories that keep you awake at night! and our Hero Aiden is truly a dashing Knight in shining armour.

The various acts that we are drawn into add to the mystery and intrigue of the story line, and keeps you on your toes as you aren't quite sure where the author is going to go next. From America, to Japan, to the highlands and back we truly are led on a wild ride.  I am looking forward to reading more of Harlow and Aidens' story.

Save My Soul

Author: Kristie S. Haigwood
Published: (3rd Edition) 16 March 2012
Genre: Romance/Paranormal
Pinky's rating (out of 5): 5 dragonflies

Book Description
Kendra Larkin had everything going in the right direction. Her life was seemingly perfect, and she wouldn't have changed a thing about it. Unfortunately, the course of her life was about to be forever altered. A tragic rappelling accident lands her on Dr. Adam Chamberlain's operating table.

She agrees to a deal proposed by a guardian angel to help save the soul of the man who is both her doctor and soul mate. If she is successful, she gets to keep her life. However, she later learns that it isn't just her life that's in jeopardy, but her soul as well.

My Thoughts
Let me start off by saying that I have been married to my soul mate for a little over 19 years. We are so in tune we don't even have to say a word to each other we just know what the other is thinking. But what happens when you can't find your soul mate or are kept from being with them? This is the story that you find unfolding as you read Save My Soul.

Our Heroine is definitely Kendra, but until the end we are kept guessing as to who the Hero is going to be, will it be Aven, Adam or Rhyan, or will Mason take it all from them.

As I read this book I laughed, I cried (and let me just say that a grown woman sitting on a crowded train with tears rolling down her cheeks, certainly draws a lot of funny looks !), and at times I wanted to bitch slap Adam across the back of the head and tell him to snap out of it. I found my stomach turned into knots, as I wished with all my heart that the ending was what I hoped for.

This is truly an amazing story and I applaud Kristie on her writing. Even if you aren't into paranormal/angels this story has a lot of messages that everybody can benefit from.

Introducing .... Brenda Sparks

I have been very fortunate this week to be given the opportunity to interview Brenda Sparks, Author of A Midsummer Night's Demon!

Where are you from originally?
I was born and raised in Winchester, Virginia. The city is nestled in Shenandoah Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the fall, beautiful hues of red, orange, and yellows surrounded me and every spring the cherry, apple, and dogwood trees bloomed with shades of pink and white. It was a gorgeous place to grow up.

Tell us your latest news?

I am very happy to announce my debut story, A Midsummer Night’s Demon. It is a novella, so it is a quick read that gives the reader a first look into an upcoming series.

If you could have a dinner party with any authors from any time in history, who would you choose and why?

I would love to sit down with Edgar Allen Poe and have a discussion about where the inspiration for his works came from. I think a peek into his mind would be fascinating.

What are your current projects?

I just finished final edits on my first novel entitled Weaver of Dreams, which will be released later this year. It is about beings from another dimension that visit humans at night to feed from the emotions produced by their dreams.

What books or authors have influenced your writing?

Christine Feehan has been a big influence. I was introduced to adult paranormal romances by Ms. Feehan’s work and it was love at first read. Now I can’t get enough of the genre.

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Wow, this is a tough question. It is hard to pick just one. I’d love to meet Stephan King, J.R. Ward, and Joey W. Hill. An interesting mix, I know, but then so is my collection of books.
What book are you reading now and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)?
I’m currently reading Centaur Legacy by Nancy Straight in ebook format. Talk about a great YA paranormal read. Wow!

Tell us a little about your background. When did you start writing?

Believe it or not, I started writing only four years ago. A scene came to mind as I was driving to work one morning. One scene led to another until within a few months I had an entire book. That story led to a sequel and by the time the third story started to form in my mind, I was beginning to forget the first, so I figured I better write it down before I forgot it. And voila! My series was born.

Where do you get your ideas?

I find inspiration all around, in the pink and purple hues of a sunrise, the silly story told around the lunch table about a bug in a co-worker’s pants. My mind takes the ordinary and twists it into something dark and paranormal. At any given time, I have at least two stories running around my head, which can be chaotic but fun.

What is your writing process?

My creative muse is a morning person, so I wake up early, make some coffee, and write. I don’t have a set amount of time or words per day. Instead I write until a chapter or two are complete. Some days it takes 4 hours, other days it may take 9, but either way I don’t stop until the chapter I’m working on is complete.
Do you write full-time now?

Unfortunately, I have to balance my writing with my professional obligations to my job as a Special Education Specialist.  I could always use more writing time, but I am fortunate in that I have summers and winter vacation off which gives me time to write.

Can you tell us a little bit about A Midsummer Night’s Demon?

I’d love to. :)

Daelyn Torres is determined to break free from her over-protective brother. Born a demon, she knows little of the world outside her home and work. A chance blind date promises adventure and perhaps a walk on the wild side. But her night on the town takes a deadly turn when she is gravely injured and left to die. A handsome, mysterious stranger comes to her rescue and brings with him a passion she has never experienced. Daelyn never believed in things that went bump in the night but is more than willing to be seduced by the sexy vampire who marks both her body and soul.
A dark guardian sent to investigate a series of missing person cases, vampire Ky Robinson is ready for anything, except the insatiable desire that engulfs him when he meets Daelyn. He senses their destiny is intertwined and vows to do everything in his power to keep her safe. The only problem? Demons and vampires go together like fire and ice.
How long did it take you to complete?

Because it is a novella, it didn’t take as long as a full novel. The basic story was completed in 10 days, with an additional week for revisions.

Are any of your characters based on real-life friends or acquaintances?

No. Unfortunately, I don’t personally know any vampires or demons, but I’d love to meet some if you know any.
Do you ever incorporate yourself into your characters?

Not so much me, but there is a little piece of my husband in all my heroes. I can’t help it. Ours is a true love story and the parts of him I adore always end up in my male characters. In A Midsummer Night’s Demon, Ky’s protective nature, the way he treats Daelyn, even the position where he sits in the bar all reflect characteristics of my husband.
Tell us about your cover. Did you design it yourself?

Wild Rose Press has an amazing Art Department. Cover artist Angela Anderson designed the cover. I provided descriptions of the characters and the basic story outline, Angela did the rest.

Does your reading inspire you and your work?

Absolutely. By reading stories by other authors, I learn about the craft, learn what readers want. Reading definitely makes me a better writer. Reading and writing go hand in hand.

Where can we find you online?

Sacrifice of Innocence - Release

Sacrifice Of Innocence

THE BLURB:
A cult has been killing children for its rituals and only one cop knows who they are. Detective Stan Brookshire knows but his past keeps people from believing in him. Can he rise above the stigma that shrouds his past and stop a cult from taking yet another innocent child from her mother’s arms before its too late?

THE COVER:

AN EXERPT:
The man in the corner listened in the darkness, the wind whistling through the crack in the window frame, billowing his hair around him. The child in the room with him was invisible in the darkness. Even the power of the sun, let alone the light from the full moon, could not dampen the gloom hidden behind the boarded windows.

Hearing a sound, the man stiffened. It was the child; the sweet, young child.

"Very soon, my precious, very soon," Joseph whispered, his breath coming in short gasps. Excitement filled his belly; time was drawing closer for the boy.

Footsteps in the hallway caused the boy to whimper in fear, lighting the man's loins on fire. Desperately wanting the forbidden, to touch and to play with the boy, he tried to force the urge back down. He wasn't allowed that pleasure, yet. The priests would come soon and the boy would have to be pure. The man's needs would have to wait. The boy would have to wait.

Dreaming of the day he would finally be able to have his way with the boy, the man fixed the delicious whimpers in his memory. The boy would no longer be able to cry and plea.

It was coming soon. So close now.

On the other side of the room, he heard the ominous creak of the door opening. Blinding light silhouetted a figure dressed in long robes.

He hurried over and retrieved his boy-child, his breath coming in gasps so ragged that he thought his lungs would cease to function.

A whimper was all that escaped the gag when the boy tried to scream. Cringing at the man's touch, he fought against the bonds, causing the man's groin to harden once more.

The man smiled. He tightened his grip upon the boy as he tried to wiggle free. The door stood open, waiting for him and the boy.
Suddenly, the door swung closed behind him, plunging the room into darkness once again.
