Damned if you Don't - Blog Tour

Andrew Jackson “Jack” Kent’s on the hunt for white collar criminals, and as a private investigator he always gets his man. Except in this case it’s a woman, the brilliant cellular kineticist Dr. Morgan Mackenzie, whose next thrilling discovery is—him.

On the run from her employers with the formula for a priceless but deadly diet drug, Morgan agrees to a night of pleasure with the outrageously sexy stranger. But when she leaves the next morning, Jack won’t let her get far, and that’s when she realizes the horrible truth. Her cowboy on a white horse isn’t a hero after all. He’s part of the posse.

Yet when Jack goes to turn Morgan in, he learns who the real criminals are, and suddenly, it’s a race against time to find a murderer before they’re killed themselves. To do that Jack needs to convince Morgan he’s on her side. Even though she doesn’t trust him, Jack is a drug she can’t resist, leading her to find out that more often than not you're Damned If You Don't fall in love.

Morgan stopped in the middle of the staircase.  Don’t turn.  Don’t turn.

The picture of dimples and a smile to die for simply wouldn’t let her go.  Were they worth her principles?  Hadn’t she put him into enough danger as it was already?  Her stomach knotted with the truth.  She wanted him.  She wanted everything he was offering.   She had no right to take it.   Because if one hint of her problems touched him, he could end up an accessory.

Her hand gripped the railing.  One enchanted evening.  He doesn’t even know your real name.

One fairy tale night.  Even if they track you back to him, he could say he’d been duped.

Think.  Think.  Make sure.  Her grip tightened, knuckles turning white with the strain.  Trembling fingers of her other hand rubbed at her temple.  There are always consequences and this is his life, not only yours.
Eventually, the people who were after her would pick up her trail.  The proprietor would remember her and probably be able to identify Morgan even though she’d changed her appearance.  No one would ever know she and Jack had any other contact than being guests at her establishment at the same time.  And if they did, he could simply tell the truth—she’d lied to him.

The front door opened.  Morgan ran up the rest of the steps, slipping into her room as quietly as possible. With her cheek pressed against the door, she could hear Jack climb the steps, his tread slow, deliberate, and she hoped disappointed. A picture came to her, his face full of indecision as he raised his hand to knock on her door.
Her heart broke as she imagined that same hand falling to his side.

The floor creaked in the hallway.  He’d turned.  Headed towards his room.  Without thought, Morgan cracked open her door.  Her jaw dropped as he stepped into the room next to hers.
Fate or design?
She didn’t care.  Her gaze shot to the right and spied an adjoining door.  Fate or design?  It didn’t matter. Not when the possibility loomed so large it blinded her with its promise.
Promethium tantalum.
Her heart began to pound.  She couldn’t catch her breath.  Her throat turned dry as dust as another reality slammed into her psyche.  God, it had been so long.  All sane thought flew from her mind.  Except one.  Mouthwash.  And a dab of cologne.

Don’t question.  Don’t look in the mirror.
Not even lipstick?

Hesitant steps brought her to the adjoining door.  As quietly as possible, Morgan unlocked and opened her side.  She stared at the wood from his side.  Now for the moment of truth.
She pushed.  The door swung open.

J Speaks (L&J #1.5)

“I came here, baby, to tell you I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”  He inhaled sharply, but said in an even voice. “And I can’t lose you before the greatest fight I will ever wage.”

Redemption. Could I absolve him? I lay in a hospital bed for two weeks. All of it at his hands. I’d been marred, though the scar on my skin was not the worst damage. It was a reminder of the scar I’d carried inside. Could he erase that scar? Could he heal a wound one could not see?

There was silence, deafening silence. I tried to keep it together. I used every ounce of energy I had to keep the fire at a low flame, but it blazed through me. He would’ve shot my kid, and I couldn’t let that happen. These kids, they’d become my lifeline. My light.

“Without those kids, I’m just as dark as you.” I said emotionlessly, empty. These last few weeks of pretending during the day, only to come home and sob until sleep graced me was maddening. “I’ve got nothing left to give you, J. Nothing.”

I hung my head, losing the fight with the tears that had been threatening to erupt since J arrived. “I can’t be your light, when I have none.”

We lay on the floor, two damaged bodies searching for the light. J pulled my head into his hands, bringing us face to face. I could feel his breath against my lips. “You were a comet that bust into my life out of no where” he whispered. “I begged for you. On my knees in the dirt, I groveled to the sky to bring me light. And there you were, at Eight Oh Eight, staring up at me, even though I knew you couldn’t see through the window. I saw you, though. Elle, I saw you long before you saw me.”

“How could I love a killer?”

“How much pain was worth loving this man?

“Please, baby. Please. I need you. I love you. I can’t go into this without knowing you’ll be here when I return.”
“I’m not sure what to say. I want to tell you I’ll wait. That I’ll be here, waiting like a good girl for you. I want to because I love you. Fuck, I love you.” I turned, finally ready to look him in the eye. “I don’t know where I’ll be. I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that I love the fuck out of you, and no matter how much I try to stop,” I paused. Fuck this mother fucker. Fuck! God, why was he doing this to me? Angry tears, sad tears, hopeless tears, tears filled with longing fell from my eyes. J caught then with his thumb, but there were too many. They ran over his fingers like a waterfall.

“Fuck, J. I don’t want you to die.”
He pulled me to him, and I inhaled his scent. I’d never be able to smell Acqua di mother fucking Gio again and not think of him. Today it was mixed with the smell of exhaust, like he’d been riding around all night. For what felt like the gazillionth time, I crumbled into his arms. How did two times come to be a number exponentially higher?

“I don’t want to die, baby. I want to fall asleep next to you. I want to wake up next to you. I’m fighting this war for you. To be with you.”

Author Bio:

Emily is a Midwestern Gal, but could be anywhere as you read this. She gypsy's the country, as well as south of the border. Adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material.

She loves kids and working with kids, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life.

Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story.

Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of.

I slowly walk in the direction of the noise. I have no idea why, snooping didn't exactly do me any favors the last time. There are a few more doors down here, one door is slightly open and I can tell it's a pool room. There are three pool tables spread around and I find the reason behind the noise. I've only ever been with one man at a time, in fact I've only ever been with douche-bag, but this girl has three. My brain races with the possibilities of what three men could do to my body.  After reading so many erotica books I’ve certainly fantasized about the things I’ve read, but it’s nothing compared to actually seeing it happen right in front of you.  Where I’m standing is dark, so even if they look up… they won’t be able to see me.  At least I hope not! The woman is naked, legs spread wide and laying on her back on the table.  One man has his head buried between her thighs, another thrusting his cock deep in her mouth at the edge of the table, and the third is licking her nipples from the other side. The sight is highly erotic and I'm immediately turned on. My eyes widen when they stop, flipping the girl over, dragging her down the table so one of the men can sit at its edge with her straddling his lap. The others take their positions, one behind her, the other standing above them all, giving the girl perfect access to his hard cock. Her moan fills the room as the three enter her, bumping and thrusting. I fight my own hands, biting on my lip. I am so turned on right now, I don't know what to do with myself. I think about running back to my room and taking care of myself, but I can't turn my eyes away from the scene acting out in front of me. I catch movement to my side, shocked to see Angel glaring at me. "Like what you see?" I stare wide eyed, I don't know what to say. I'm embarrassed he's caught me watching. He curses, looking back to the foursome.  The girl’s moaning becomes louder and I step back. I'm still turned on, my underwear is soaked, even though I'm ashamed at being caught watching. Angel looks at me, snickering before storming into the room. What the fuck is he doing?

Review - A Gift of Continence

Author: Tabitha Ormiston-Smith
Publised: 12 February 2012 (first published 18 March 2011)
Genre: Contemporary/Humour
Pinky's Rating (out of 5): 5 dragonflies

Book Description

With the perfect wedding dress, what can go wrong? A great deal, as Fiona McDougall rapidly discovers. From the wedding from hell onwards, Fiona successively discovers that her new husband is stingy, bad-tempered and an adulterer.

WARNING: do not attempt to read this book while drinking hot liquids, as they may shoot out of your nose.

My Thoughts
I'm probably going to embarrass myself with confessing this, but for some reason every time I see the title of this book my brain reads Continence as Incontinence. Two entirely different words I know, but for some reason, my brain couldn't process it.

OK, second confession, I had to Google continence just so I could figure out what the hell it meant, and why it would be a gift! That said, I now know the difference between Continence and Incontinence and I will get on with the review.

This book is not for the fainthearted. If you do not enjoy side splitting Aussie tongue in cheek humor do not read this book.

We meet Fiona on the morning of her wedding to the man of her dreams, or so we are lead to believe. From that point forward we are drawn into a story that could have unfolded in any number of kitchens around the world, as the wedding from hell turns into reality.

This is a beautifully written story, that by the end will have every reader adding their two cents to the plot as plausible ways to see Tim get his just deserts. Yes there are sexual references and profanity throughout, but anybody who knows a true Aussie will know that's just how we roll.

I thoroughly recommend this story, and look forward to reading more offerings by Tabitha Ormiston-Smith

Review - A Kiss by Design

Author: Christy Hayes
Published: 7 December 2013
Genre: NA Romance
Pinky's Rating (out of 5): 4 dragonflies

Book Description

What’s a girl to do when her best friend is making a mistake? Stop him, of course.

College sophomore Emily Dilbert has been best friends with Dylan Chamberlain since they were kids. All she wants is for him to be happy and she knows him better than anyone. That’s why when she finds an engagement ring in his backpack she has to stop him from marrying the wrong girl.

Dylan Chamberlain has been in love with his brother’s girlfriend, Emily, since the second grade. When his brother asks for help planning a surprise proposal, Dylan knows it’s time to bury his feelings and finally let Emily go. Too bad his heart refuses to cooperate.

All of Emily’s attempts to lure Dylan away from his girlfriend fail, forcing her to turn up the heat on their friendship. Will Dylan reveal his long-buried secret and tell Emily how he feels? Or will Emily be forced to use any means necessary to show him the error of his ways?

My Thoughts
A Kiss by Design is well written, however there is not a lot of character development, Zach is as emotionally stunted at the start of the story as he is at the end. That being said, it does not detract from the story in any way, as it just reinforces the decisions that are made by Emily and Dylan.

In my opinion the story is a comedy of errors, and while the author may not have intended it to be so, the nature of people and emotions makes it so.

There is a strong bond between Emily and Dylan, and I think that is what makes their story work so well. Their relationship is tested numerous times, and I felt the connection between them. It was almost as if they were in the room with me, I could feel the emotion, the electricity that they possessed.

I am interested in reading the next installment - Zach's Story.

Review - Sweet Lucidity

Author: Melissa Bond
Published: 6 December 2013
Genre: Paranormal
Pinky's Rating (out of 5): 4.5 dragonflies

Book Description
Before the vampire apocalypse, there was their love.

What would you say to a centuries old vampire who knew in knowing him would lead to your extraordinary death?

When Melissa meets four curious strangers, who happen to know more about her than she knows about them, her presence in their lives ignites a fuse, shattering her innocence, and the comfortable existence the vampires had grown used to are forever altered.

Contains strong themes involving teens, gore, moderate violence, some sexual situations, and suicide. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Thoughts
When I first started reading Sweet Lucidity, I was not sure exactly what the story was about. There seemed to be a mishmash of themes that didn't seem to connect. It wasn't until about half way through the book that this mishmash started to come together and I found myself enjoying where the story was going.

There is strong character development with our leading lady Melissa who starts as a wary and scared teenager and develops into a beautiful strong willed young woman who is changed by what she learns. The relationship she develops with David and his friends is beautifully described and will leave you breathless.

By the end of the story, I was hooked. What started out slowly turned into a steam train that left me definitely wanting more. I am looking forward to starting the next installment in the series which for me is very aptly named 'Dragonfly'.

Introducing - Heaven in You

2003 was a wild year for Jasmine Ashcroft and Jonathan Fox. Betrayal. Tragedy. Breakups. Reunions. And way too many long-haul flights. Now Jasmine and Jonathan just want to get away from it all for a little while. What better place to celebrate their first Christmas together than an out-of-the-way cabana in the Riviera Maya? No electricity, no phones, no paparazzi. Just sea, sunshine, and--hopefully--lots of shagging.

But like the most tenacious of groupies, mayhem follows the Strange Angels frontman everywhere…even to paradise. If Kit and his Wild One want their newfound relationship to survive this vacation, they’re going to need a lot of trust, strength, and patience. And tequila. Mucho tequila.

Warning! This novella is for readers 18+ only due to drug references, mature language, and lots of steamy Rock star sex.

Elizabeth Corva worked in the music industry for 14 years before moving to the relatively sane and stable world of defense contracting. She has collected a road case full of stories that she uses as inspiration for her novels.

The Angel Interceptor series was conceived as the sun was setting on Hair Metal, born during the early days of fictionpress, and came of age in 2013 when the author finally worked up the nerve to try self-publishing. All of Elizabeth's works are dedicated to the men who play Metal and the women who love them, even though they should know better.

Review - Trailer Trash, with a Girl's Name

Author: Stacey Roberts
Published: 28 February 2014
Pinky's Rating (out of 5): 5 dragongflies

(actually 5 doesn't do it justice, but it's the top rating I have

Book Description
When the author was born, his mother did the unthinkable. She gave him a girl’s name—Stacey.

But Stacey’s name was just the first hurdle he’d face in his uphill climb from birth to manhood. He also had to deal with an entitled older brother, the hodgepodge of different men his mother was involved with, and the nomadic lifestyle he was forced to endure for five years. And to top it all off, his mother couldn’t cook a decent meal to save her life.

Trailer Trash, With a Girl’s Name is Stacey Roberts’ lighthearted, often hilarious account of growing up in an unstable household during the 1980s. Full of humor, history, and hope, it follows Stacey from the hospital room where he was born to the Winnebago that carried him across the country, filling in the gaps with a wit and humor that anyone with a dysfunctional family can appreciate.

So go ahead and start reading. Once you hop aboard the Winnebago with Stacey and his quirky family, you’ll find that you’re in for the ride or your life, where what you learn along the way is not only entertaining, but also enormously enriching.

My Thoughts
It took me just on a day read this book. Why I hear you ask, because while I would have loved to keep reading from start to finish, my boss said that he was paying me to do be there to work, not sit there and laugh riotously over the book I was reading. So, I had to put it down to work, and sleep, and for some reason the kids and husband kept wanting me to feed them (damn inconvenient if you ask me!)

Yesterday morning I sent Stacey Robert's this message on Facebook:

I started Trailer Trash, With a Girl's Name last night. OMG I think I got about two pages in and had tears rolling down my face I was laughing so hard. About to board the train for my commute to work and don't know if I should continue reading. If what I've already read is anything to go by I could be rolling in the isle before we get to the next station!

His response

Risk it! My friend and humor guru Maura Stone almost got thrown off a bus for laughing too hard while reading Trailer Trash.  I'll send you extra copies for your next commute to pass around!  PS - I am very happy you like it. You made my day!

Well, Mr Stacey Roberts, I did as you suggested and I did continue to read Trailer Trash on my morning commute to work. Do you know how hard it is to laugh without making a sound??? I was shaking so violently that I am sure the person I was sitting next to thought I was having some sort of epileptic fit !

Trailer Trash, With a Girl's Name is a beautifully written look at the life of a middle american family, and readers, I can pretty much guarantee that somebody in your family got sucked into a pyramid selling scheme at least once !

This is definitely one of the funniest books I have ever read. I don't normally give away spoilers, but I have to quote this one paragraph that had me laughing so hysterically that my kids thought I was having an asthma attack:

"My mother never even really explained why she named me Stacey. The closest I ever got to a reason was, "I thought you were gonna die.""

Now I am sure a lot of you are saying to yourselves, Pinky that isn't even remotely funny. Well let me tell you, it is the underlying theme throughout the whole story, and once you have read Trailer Trash, with a Girl's Name, you will understand just why I found myself with tears rolling and unable to catch my breath.
