Katie in Love - Blog Tour

"There is a word I have always avoided in my writing. That word is love. What does it mean? How do you deal with it? If you find it and lose it, how do you get over it? Love is something you feel and, when you feel it, you can’t trust it or define it. How can you sustain love for a long time? A short time? You may love your family, your friends. But you don’t invite them inside your body."

Those thoughts come from Katie in Love, my new novel, and describe best what the book is about – love, with all its complications and setbacks. Shakespeare tells us the course of love never did run smooth. He certainly made it tough on Romeo and Juliet. Then, that's the writer's job: to reveals aspects of our humanity in ways that readers can identify with and see themselves in a similar situations.

In our times, love is more complex than ever. Relationships come and go like the seasons. Half of marriages fail. We live in fear that the one we love does not love us, or loves us too little - even too much, the love that comes with obsession, stalking, a sense of ownership. We need love, we crave love, but often draw back when it approaches.

Katie in Katie in Love is a party girl, promiscuous, a risk taker. She is coming up to 30, that age when we begin to analyse who we are, what we want, where we are going. That's when she meets Tom Bridge, a volunteer doctor who runs an orphanage in Sri Lanka. He's getting over a broken relationship with a French cellist, and home on leave in London for three weeks.

Katie and Tom are opposites in many ways, but bond immediately, intellectually, sexually. He awakens something in her that is dormant. As the days peel away before he leaves, Katie thinks back overt her life, the combination of forward action and back reflection taking her to the point where she must make a decision that will have life-changing consequences.

Katie Boyd has nothing in common with Tom Bridge, the volunteer doctor she meets at a party – except in bed she finds a passion to match her own. Tom is intense, puzzling, a man who cares about others and compels Katie to question her own life drifting through the hip clubs and London party scene.

When Tom returns to his post in a Sri Lanka orphanage, Katie isn’t sure if their passion was lit by its brevity, or if love, unexpected and not entirely wanted, has edged its way into her life. Should she go back to being who she always was? Or follow Tom into the unknown?

Katie in Love is a compelling erotic-romance that will grip readers as they follow Katie’s journey to an ending they may have expected – but not in the way they expected it.
